Lack of windows but riding on them on the Central Wales line, they seem to rattle a lot at top speed.

I remember when these were brought into service in the early or mid '80s. There was a magazine with Daley Thompson next to one about to sprint off from starting blocks.

they are diesel engined (cummins straight 6 285 bhp) with voith hydraulic torque conversion transmission.

Ok, help a poor yank out here. Are these diesel driven? Diesel electric? Just curious. Forgive me, I'm an American that has never been to the UK.

same body as 318 driving cars, class 156s carriages are longer.
