I have been studying voice for 6 months and thank my teacher, Dr. Linda Venable, for giving me this opportunity to sing before judges and thank all my friends for coming!!! Thank Yancy Lo for holding the camera. Thank Carlo Sidore for teaching me Italian. And especially thank my lovely accompanist, Caroline Cheng. Thank you for putting a lot of your precious time into it and thank you for the emotional support. I am not very good but I just love to sing even when it could be quite frustrating and confusing sometimes.

Here I am doing three songs for baritones, but I decided to adopt more tenor approach one month before the competition. It seems closer to my natural voice and 'feels' better, but I am not quite used to singing in that way now. Anyway maybe I should not talk myself into any voice category.

My program is
1. Der Vogelfänger bin ich ja (Mozart, not recorded though)
2. Amarilli, mia bella (Caccini)
3. Build Thee More Stately Mansions (Mark Andrews)

Everyone likes the second one. I like that, too. Thank God! I think I was off the pitch at two places in the third song. But I am satisfied with that. There was just too much self-conducting. I'll deal with that later. Maybe I should start from the notorious classical singing hand position.

Lyrics:

Amarilli, mia bella,
Non credi, o del mio cor dolce desio,
D'esser tu l'amor mio?
Credilo pur: e se timor t'assale,
Dubitar non ti vale.
Aprimi il petto e vedrai scritto in core:
Amarilli, Amarilli, Amarailli
è il mio amore.

Amaryllis, my lovely one,
do you not believe, o my heart's sweet desire,
That you are my love?
Believe it thus: and if fear assails you,
Doubt not its truth.
Open my breast and see written on my heart:
Amaryllis, Amaryllis, Amaryllis,
Is my beloved.

Build thee more stately mansions o my soul
As the swift seasons roll
Leave thy low-vaulted past
Let each new temple nobler than the last
Shut thee from heaven with a dome more vast
Till thou at length art free
Leaving thine outgrown shell by life's unresting sea
