I love Gold City, but you need to hear Alvin Slaughter sing this with his mighty voice, he will blow you away!!!
-
I think they lowered it a half step - for Ivan's sake is my guess. He seems to be struggling a bit on the top end.
-
how much lower is this, than the original?
-
not the same.....:(

@TheTarheelmusicman Remember friend.... the harmonies are spot on..... but the message for all the groups is the same.

I heard this song sung by this very quartet for the first time on my car radio driving to work one morning. It blessed my heart and soul so much that I literally had to pull my car over to the side of the road and have a Free Will Baptist shoutin' good time! I was alone, but I wouldn't have cared if someone DID hear me! One of the greatest songs ever written!

@mjdewalt Meeee tooo!! Praise the Lord

It is not how well you sing that makes you the best, it is how well you allow GOD to use you to reach others through the gift he has given you. Ivan did just that as well as the other singers. Gold city changed my life years ago late 80's in an Arkansas church where we gladly paid a little to see such remarkable GODly singers instill in my heart the glory of God!!!!
Gold City is far from being the GREATEST Quartet all time!! The Statesmen,Blackwoods, and old Oak Ridge Qt are the standard and that's the bottom line, and I grew up in the 1980's and know that. Listen to the old records that were without Pro Tools and doctored up studio vocal recording of today. The harmonies are incredible.

@TheTarheelmusicman This version of Gold City is from the 80's. No Pro Tools in 85.

Not a big southern gospel fan? This is arguably the best quartet that has ever been. Ivan was with them for over 10 years.
