There are many external hard drive enclosures on the market, but most don't offer RAID 5/10 support like the SilverStone DS351 External RAID HDD Storage Enclosure does. Of course this unit is a lot more expensive that a regular external hard drive enclosure, but it will give you peace of mind knowing your data is safe. If you treasure your pictures, music, movies and other data, you need to ensure it's not going to be lost due to a hard drive failure. The SilverStone DS351 External RAID HDD Storage Enclosure accepts up to 5 hard drives and supports Raid 0, Raid 1, Raid 10, and Raid 5. And to make the best of it, it's completely quiet. • That is an LCD display back-lighted by LEDs. Why people call everything back-lighted by LEDs a LED display. LCD TV with LED back-light are still LCD not damn LED TVs. And I'm more than sure some stupid people out there buy such 'LED' TVs and they think they got something as uber as OLED screens still being technically in development...

  • Is this setup compatible with Windows 2000, I have a high end broadcast Canopus Video Capture card and I'm trying to set up a raid 0 to increase the read and write spead for increased rendering clarity..Thanks!

  • the raid 0 result looks sucky and I am thinking that it is the Raid Controller's fault .. is it hitting a bottleneck at 90MB/s?

ESATA is supposed to be a touch less than 300MB/s if the hard drives can input/output that amount of data.

  • It sounds like you have a bad cold in this review.

  • Txh for the review! I'm learning it essentials pc hardware and software and your review is very usefull. Thx again!

  • great review. so let me ask, if the os crashes and u need to install OS again, will pluging in the eSATA and installing teh software be enought to recover the raid status. or u must import something with the raid setup.

    thanks

Hard drives can overheat, while anything up to 50C is okay, if you start getting higher than that it is not good - you might for example reach these higher temps in a boxed in raid setup - hence the fans.

  • awsome.

  • Actually, he does. He keeps it and resells it, that's how he manages to stay "in business."
