My Response to Sxephil's "I'm Going to Jail Because of a Movie?" regarding bootlegging DVDS and a new law that makes the crime punishable by a $1000 fine and a 1 year jail sentence.
NOTE: There is already a federal law that makes coptright infringement punishable UP TO a $250,000 fine and 5 years in prison. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to deter many people. I think that the purpose of this new law may be to quell a situation that lawmakers in that state feel is getting out of control.

People seem to be getting confused so:
I admit to buying pirated DVDS which is NOT a crime. I discourage the use of a HYPOTHETICAL law to make the act of buying pirated DVDs a crime.

I even find Youtube sometimes illegal as well. Because they put TV shows, cartoons, anime and music vids of that artist that they rip off their DVDs and send it on the Ineternet. I find using the Internet is a bad idea. Dunno why they came up with this. Besides you are paying over $50 a month for your cable bill, and downloading is NOT FREE, SINCE YOU ARE PAYING YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION LINE... So you see guys.. That is how I feel about piracy.

I think they should shut down these companies like ThePirateBay and Bitttorent because those are the 2 main ones. Years ago, I heard about Limewire and Imesh, those shut down, and I do find it illegal. What About Itunes? I rather buy a CD and upload it to my itunes Ipod rather then paying with Paypal or a credit card for the songs. CDs are now under $10 in the store after a few years ago when they use to cost $20 per CD. Now, I'm buying all my music @ Walmart and Target, because they are cheap

People going out and buying the bootleg DVDs is clearly hurting the industry.

If all people did was bootleg the movie, and not sell it, the industry wouldn't lose any money. But people like you, people who BUY those bootlegs; they are the ones who made the decision to cut the theaters out of the loop.

Also, it is completely a crime to purchase and posses bootleg DVDs, and your assuming that it isn't is frightening...

YOU THINK A YEAR IN JAIL IS WORTH IT!?!?!? I stopped the video after I heard that. YOU go to jail then lets here you say it's worth a year. Even with people pirating videos, studios STILL make a killing because of people like my mom that enjoy the theater experience. Your opinion is your opinion on whether or not it's wrong but you're a NUT for thinking it's worth a year in jail. No offense.
