Im using two computer power supplys (ATX) to power a kicker amp and a car cd player.. Hooked to a Re Audio Rex 12 For both power supplies it only cost 10$ !!

First cut off all the wires except the Yellow (12v) wires, Black (Ground) wires, 1 Green (turn on) wire, Brown 3.3v Sense wire, and a Orange (3.3v) wire.

All I did was combine all the Yellow wires and placed it on the Amp/CD Player
Then combine all the Grounds and hook it to the ground on the Amp/CD Player
Then hook the Brown wire to Orange (leaves the psu on)
Lastly Hook the Green wire to any Ground wire (Which turns on the psu)

Thats all you have to do!! You can hook anything that needs 12v to the psu and run it..... Also I got the two power supplies from a computer shop and they usually just throw them away!!

Need Help?? Just ask

  • @jaumell007 maybe hooking it up wrong or a blown fuse? i dont know for sure

  • name of song please

  • @NetinINC biggie big papa

  • :D Okay... i have 1000w 4 channel amp and 550w psu. If it safe, if i use only 2 channels?

  • @H3nkkap the amount of channels doesnt matter, its only how much power you pull through it..... whenever i turned my amp up, the psu simply turned off, so just put the gain down and turn it up, and whenever the light starts dimming on the amp turn it back some and leave it there..... (since underpowering amps can fry the inside)

  • Its all about the the amp rating on the 12v rail(s). 20amps through a 12v rail = 240watts of power to your amp.
