i've got the whole video at home and I recommended it to some of my japanese friends who are working on their english - its really a terrific resource
It's helpful to have the strange features of the English language and spelling explicitly pointed out.
A better alternative would be to gradually eliminate the inconsistencies, as Val Yule advocates, but if we have to live with them, then we should understand why they are there.
I am not entirely sure if primary school children would be capable of grasping all of this the same way I do, but, if not, it could be adapted so that they can grasp at least some of it.

Great video. Not knowing how to spell is such a confidence drainer for people and it's great to see a tool for people to self educate themselves.
