Why would you need to boil AND chemically treat the other? Doesn't boiling kill everything but chemicals sometimes only kill certain things? Seems redundant.

@JustinBaker2567 That is my underatanding too, Justin. The creek does run through many farmlands and residential areas, chemical contamination in the water is very likely, so a good filter (not like my hankerchief :-) ) is a good idea. None the the less, the signs at the trail heads recomend you treat your water by first filtering, boiling, then chemically treat your water before consumption. Perhaps it has to do with liability issues for the area?? Not sure.

@JustinBaker2567 If you notice later on in part three, I actually drink water from the creek that was only filtered through a hankerchief then boiled... I'm still alive and there were no ill effects. :-) Just remember that boiling alone can't remove many chemicals or heavy metals that may be contaminating the water.
