True he did smoke heavily, however this album was released in 1975 and so his heavy smoking in the 80's wouldn't have affected this.

maybe it was smoking, cause early 80's he was a heavy smoker through to death

He got nodes on his vocal cords from too much singing: shout singing, and not in his natural singing register. Misuse of the voice, basically.

Well somthing happened concerning his throat or vocal chords, cause twords the end, singing really high was not an option. It hurt to do so.
