Cory Friedman woke up one morning when he was five years old with the uncontrollable urge to twitch his neck. From that day forward his life became a hell of irrepressible tics and involuntary utterances, and Cory embarked on an excruciating journey from specialist to specialist to discover the cause of his disease. Soon it became unclear what tics were symptoms of his disease and what were side effects of the countless combinations of drugs. The only certainty is that it kept getting worse. Simply put: Cory Friedman's life was a living hell.
AGAINST MEDICAL ADVICE is the true story of Cory and his family's decades-long battle for survival in the face of extraordinary difficulties and a maddening medical establishment. It is a heart-rending story of struggle and triumph with a climax as dramatic as any James Patterson thriller.
This story has brought many hours of tears and joy. It has my mind and my heart and has given me a new understanding. Thank you for a great book.

"I will survive. I will love life, if life will love me." - Cory Friedman.
This story shows you that no matter how far down you fall, it's only a matter of time until you gather strength to start climbing back up..

I LOVED THIS BOOK. It taught me so much. I would love to see a movie made so that the world learns that people with Tourettes are just like you and I, with a uncontrolled condition that they cannot help.
I am so happy that Cory's condition is what it is today. The book is an inspiration as is your family..
You inspire me and I hope other families have the endurance to hang in there and hope they too have the success, and that there comes a cure.

The Lord put this book in my hands, I have read all of Mr. Pattersons books except this one but had it for a year. Before giving it to the church for the yard sale i decided to read it and did so in one day, less than 24 hours. it is wonderful. The reason I say the Lord put it in my hands to read is that i understand the patients that his parents had. My daughter woke up 2 days after I read this book with a Tic in her shoulder and neck. After this book, i too know we will get throuht this.
