Those two songs do sound alike. I'm surprised so many other people can't tell.

However, whilst Timbaland has stolen a lot of samples illegally (like the 8-bit ones and the asian ones), this one was actually credited, so it's legal. He knows there's no way he could get away with sampling such a famous song in secret tbh.

Also, if anybody cares, Telephone by Lady Gaga uses one of the drum patterns from The Way I Are (uncredited).

@Aykeybeatz Timberland didn't sample it just sounds really similar its actually a patch from the sh-201 b roland that he used and i know some people might be like "well he can just be playing the same notes as Salt-N-Pepa there for he is sampling their song!" but thats incorrect its actually played on different notes it just sounds like there the same notes as Push It. But nice idea and I must admit it does sound kind of similar :).

yes ofcourse he had this idea in mind. It was meant to be a counter or underlying melody. And yes it was intentional that it sounded alike...the pattern is the same but the notes are different. And guess what? I'm sure Salt-N-Pepa got that idea from someone else too.

for those of you that say the songs sound nothing alike, you are right. the melody from salt n pepas hit is used as the melody for the synths in the background of tims beats tho. you actually have to listen for it for it is not as overwhelming as salt n pepas song.
