"In a recent Chinese TV interview, well-known martial artist and actor Jackie Chan slammed America as "the most corrupt country in the world." Although the remarks may come as a surprise to many Americans, The Washington Post notes that Chan is a passionate political activist, "a staunch defender of the Chinese Communist party" and a "harsh critic of anyone he sees as opposing Beijing."*

Jackie Chan had some harsh criticism of the United States, calling it the most corrupt country in the world. He has also approved of Chinese censorship. Does Jackie Chan have a point, or is he a mouthpiece for the Chinese government. John Iadarola (Host, TYT University) and Hermela Aregawi (Producer, TYT on Current) discuss.

america is most certainly the most corrupt country in the world. Why? Because it's the most powerful. Yes other countries are probably more fucked up, but the rest of the world see that. With America so much shit goes on behind the scenes. ALWAYS with the people at the very top, you'll find corruption.

I love America; and I expect that Jackie does also... but I acknowledge that it is deeply corrupt. It doesn't make him hypocritical at all... he even states that China has many problems, but he loves it.

The reason I brought up George Bush was merely to emphasize America's predilection for it's own style of government... Many Americans are under the delusion that America is "The greatest country in the world". It's not.

I never said anything about my beliefs. What I am saying is that it is an observational fact that Jackie Chan changes his attitudes about the USA when he is in China. This makes him a hypocrite.

It has nothing to do with my beliefs.

George Bush? No one was talking about him, it is completely off topic that YOU brought that up.

He's not as one-sided as people make him out to be. I'm not saying that I agree with the means he uses to reach his ends, but the reality is that if he came out and spoke against the PRC government, it'd be suicide for his career at this point since his biggest market is in the Chinese mainland. Before the late 80's, he'd probably speak against the PRC government if given the chance. In the end, his actions are motivated by money. You don't have to agree with him, but he's definitely not stupid.

Your beliefs, rightly, come from your own outlook on life. Your own lenses... who's to say that your beliefs are right for the whole of humanity... I prefer our system... but freedom and good systems are different to different people. This was George Bush's failing... he was so convinced the USA's system was great that he thought he could impose it to Iraq... see how that turned out. There is no overriding transcendent truth, just different beliefs of different people.
