Here is a sound clip of my beater F-100 after installing a few cheap parts to wake it up a bit. Engine is a stock 1968 300 .030 over, with a 240 Ford cylinder head for increased compression, Chevrolet 292 rocker arms for more lift, EFI dual manifolds into Walker Y-pipe connected to 2.5" Red Hots glasspack, rejetted stock Autolite 1bbl carb, and stock points distributor converted to electronic via a Pertronix Ignitor. Truck is an F-100 long bed, trans is a worn out T-18 4-speed, with 3.50 rear gears, and 235/75/15 tires. Truck runs 18.5 @ 75 in the 1/4 mile at 2300ft DA.

  • check out the holley mech secondary 450cfm, cant beat it for $250, summit says its for dual carb applications but its perfect for big sixes, i knew a guy that ran one on a 4.3 chevy and it ran bitchen, was planning on running one myself until I scrapped my 300 build

    summit p/n is HLY-0-9776

  • @dezertdisasters I used one of those on a built Chevy 250 I had, and it worked great! I am going to go with a 500cfm Edelbrock Thunder AVS on a Clifford intake manifold as my next upgrade. Also will replace EFI manifolds with either Hooker or Clifford 1 5/8" tube headers, and install a mild cam at that time. Will post a video after the upgrades are done!

  • how much does the 240 head cost?

  • @kargmeister1337 I got lucky and found a new Ford head in a crate on ebay for $300 shipped. I'd say if you find one it really depends on where you find it and what condition it's in.

  • So how does the 240 head do for performence on the 300? i've been thinking about doing this to a 300.

  • @dirteeter32 The head upgrade made a big difference! I have picked up about 2 MPG, and the truck has a lot more power then it used to. The 1bbl Autolite carb has to go though. My next step is a Clifford intake with a 500cfm Edelbrock carb, and an Isky 262 Supercam. Check my other video of the truck accelerating to get an idea.......

  • noce job!cant wait to get mine.keep an eye out for me

  • @SRCAfan did the head throw off your ign timing? are you still running normal vac. advance?

  • god look at that truck rock! so much tourque for that engine :)

  • i know this is a dumb question, but can a 250 inline run a 240 head or is it too big?

  • Where did you get your air cleaner?

  • @amurican35 300 is the cubic inch displacement of this particular engine. There was also a shorter stroked version that came out to 240 cubic inch. Both built by FORD. Prices vary, many need rebuilt.

300s were used more. 240s stopped production in the later 70s i think. The 240 and 300 had the same block. Rotating assemblys are different. Combustion chamber in 240 heads is smaller, yielding approx. .5 increase in compression when used on a 300.

  • What's the "240" in the "240 cylinder head" a about . Who makes it ?

  • Go with a chambered muffler like flow-master if you want it to sound good. Makes it Echo thus makes better sound.
