Portland, Maine - May 6, 2010 - A fireman with the aid of an oxygen tank endures massive smoke clouds produced by a fire at the former Jordan's Meats factory that was in the process of demolition to make way for a new waterfront hotel bounded by India, Middle and Fore streets.
The upcoming East End structure has the potential to better fit the role of bringing together the Old Port with the "New Port" district of the city which hosts international cruise ships at the new waterfront passenger terminal and maintains much of its brick heritage throughout the area around India Street - a neighborhood originally known as "Little Italy".
