Stone is fully legit, and much of the haters represent the backlash to the "Arrogant Bastard" and "Ruination" crowd, the people who hold Stone above the rest because of the flavor heft of their ales. In my house we enjoy a 6er of Stone IPA perhaps even more than the next group, but we also enjoy an Orval or Raison D'Etre or West coast barleywine. Discriminating equal-opportunity drinkers. Is that an oxymoron?

I live in San Diego where many fine brewers exist. Stone is more soft on the pallet than our other local beer makers. A bit overrated but good none the less.

I wouldn't say Stone is overrated, they make fantastic brews. Who else is good in San Diego?

I also like some of the selections from Pizza Port Brewery up in Carlsbad, Ca.

One interesting bit of trivia that I picked up from that tour is that they love the craft brew community so much that they distribute many other smaller brewer's products in the region that otherwise could not afford to distribute themselves. Just another good reason that the craft beer industry can only get better as time goes on.
