When we held our first adventure camp for young adults with cancer, we were so disorganized! But I'm glad we took the plunge, because now, seven years and 25 camps later, we have given more than 400 young adults an adventure of a lifetime - and helped them cope with their illness.

There are so many more to help. Last year, 70,000 young adults in America heard their doctors say for the first time, "You have cancer." Yet this is a neglected and forgotten group. Cure rates aren't improving, and cancer is the second biggest killer of young adults.

Our free week-long camps help these often demoralized young people regain their sense of strength and get support from our volunteers and each other.

In 2009, we plan to host more than 140 young cancer survivors - if we get the support we need. How can you help? First, watch and help us raise $30,000 by January 31, enough to pay for two full weeks of camps. There are three ways you can contribute right now:
• Make a donation. Any amount will be appreciated.
• Forward this email to 10 friends. Help to share the First Descents mission and our goals for 2009.
• Introduce us to a young adult with cancer who may benefit from our programs.

We have thousands of young people waiting to share our First Descents adventure. We need your help now. Please send us a donation today!
