HITLERS BERGHOF The RAF bombed the area on April 25, 1945, and a little of Obersalzberg was damaged. Since then the government of Bavaria has gradually destroyed or buried almost every trace of the Berghof.

This DVD is for the historian interested in the Obersalzberg and the Berghof. Its an insight in to the impressive building of huge historical importance which was destroyed by the Bavarian government in a bid to remove all traces of the NAZI party from the hill side.

The former Gastehaus Höher Göll houses a museum chronicling the span of World War II. The nearby Platterhof hotel survived the war and restored by the US Army and renamed the General Walker Hotel. It remained in US as a recreation center until the late 1990s and was demolished in 2000. It was replaced by the new 5-star hotel, InterContinental Resort Berchtesgaden which was built nearby on the former site of Hermann Göring's chalet.

Following the departure of the U.S. military, the Bavarian government has made every attempt to remove or bury every trace of the Berghof and other Nazi buildings in an effort to return the area to a vacation site. Nevertheless, it's unlikely that the mountain's historical relevance will ever be completely erased and will continue as one of Germany's most popular "war tourism" destinations.

  • Thanks for the comments... The film was inspired by my first trip to the Berghof site.. I couldn't believe that the government has made every effort to hide this magnificent site.. The music is Das Boot taken from the internet... I didn't want to use period music, I thought id try something different...

  • There are a couple of clips in there... The main one is from Valkrie with Tom Cruise however they got the lay out of the house wrong!

  • lovly nazis.....?

  • aryan knight, eh... get a damm life already, bro.

  • the music feels cold, like the rain is really there and the mud and wet trees and the whole thing. like at the top of that mountain, excellent choice.

  • oh, das boot. real nice, the only music with some rain that i am familiar with was the doors riders on the storm, but this has more and better rain, of course not to take away anything from the incredible doors of the sixties but this is haunting and proper, it fits the mood, somehow of the film , it feels somehow isolated or something i cannot explain. good video.

  • what is this music, did you put it together or is it all das boot? i just love that music.

  • I’m glad that my webpage “Third Reich in Ruins” was useful to you as a source of period photos, and even direct quotes from my own writings – an acknowledgement that these parts of your video came from my webpage would have been nice.

@Allanlegacy43 – The spot you are thinking of was not at the Berghof – it was downhill and across the meadow, adjacent to the Mooslahnerkopf Teehaus. And yes, it is still there.

  • Can anyone tell me if that rear balcony, the one you always see the famous nazis standing on over looking the valley, if is still intact!

  • ~Although indeed a shame the murderously destructive jewZionist Allies felt insanely compelled to try eradicate all vestiges of St.Hitler's lovely chateau, --it is on the other hand better than the Jews having otherwise turned the structures upon the hallowed grounds into another ludicrous HoloHoax-museum. The Jews have made an international laughing-stock of themselves, by their desperate if obscene contrivances to portray themselves as victims, --all of which has been entirely disproven.!!!

  • A good effort - in the second paragraph of the captions it says "Berghof" means mountain in German whereas of course it is just "Berg" and "Hof" in this context really means farm. I visited the Obersalzberg in about 1990 and there was still a fair bit to see but alas it's all gone now, although the Dokumentationszentrum must be fascinating.

  • Great video and music. Isn't part of the basement still standing?
