The Blackburn Challenge is an annual open ocean race around Cape Ann, MA. There are a number of boat categories, ranging from traditional fishing dories to 6-person outrigger canoes. Fast Kayaks Double and Sea Kayaks Double comprised 7 entries this year. The prototype Pakboats XT-18 touring double took second place in the latter category.

The event is timed so that most of the boats move with the current or at slack tide most of the time. We have seen as much as 1 kt opposing current in some stretches, but that's a limited occurrence.

  • DO YOU REMEMBER THE TIDE SITUATION? Was it low tide when you left the RR bridge and go north. I just leisure paddle this on Thxgiving day and it took me about 5 hours, with stopping on Milk Island for about 30 minutes and they head to Rockport. I went CC direction. I might go this year to do HP Sea Kayak solos but I need to practice more. The race is faster and faster. Congrats on 2nd place
