@LucyiX while it's possible to configure the likes of VMware Microsoft Virtual PC and VirtualBox to use an actual physical disk this is not the default setup.
By default these virtualisation applications create virtual disks. Which in reality are just files on your PC.

sorry for asking does VMWARE or VPC changes your partiion table and causes datalosing? i share my computer with my brothers and sisters, so i need my harddisk intact!:)
