The Swell Season - The Rain (From the new album Strict Joy)

Please support The Swell Season and buy the album!!

Lyrics:

Just before the rain came down
The sun came out at last
And as for all assumptions made
Questions never asked

I know we're not where I promised you we'd be by now
But maybe it's a question of who'd want it anyhow

Even now the rainbow's end seems closer to your hand
And is it knowing when to stop the measure of the man
Ok we're not what I promised you we would become
But maybe it's a question of how much you'd really want

Have you had enough?
Had enough?
There's plenty more where that came from now

Are you feeling bought?
Swallowed up?
We got hours on you now

Just before the rain came down
The sun came out at last
And as for all assumptions made
Questions never asked

Ok I'm not what I promised you I would become
I know we're not what I promised you we'd be by now

Have you had enough?
Had enough?
There's plenty more where that came from now

You feeling bought?
Swallowed up?
We got hours on you now

You still on top?
Still crawling up?
We got hours on you now

  • Thanks Mariam for the Lyrics and inspiration; thanks for your energy!

I like this music; it's meaningful and mature; I hope all had this mentality when times are hard and love is put to death penalty. Many thanks to Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova for beautiful vocals and words.

    Regards,

    Jake

  • @niktopork It is my pleasure, Jake. They are definitely worth the effort.

  • Saw them last night in Phoenix - this song is even better live. :)

  • I agree, I watched them on 11/18 & 11/19. The 19th was hands down the best concert I've been to in a really long time. After the show, I was fortunate enough to meet the band. They were very friendly and mentioned that The Frames might be touring after The Swell Season Tour ends. Now that's something to look forward to!

  • This is a great song! It should be noticed as a top song of this decade. The meaning and depth is beyond any other song written in the last few years.

If you gotta put them in a category call it The Swell Season :)

  • This music truly affects my soul. It's an inspiration to keep writing good music!

  • I love the bass and rythm in this song. It's incredibly gorgeous. I could listen to it over and over. And the lyrics are so meaningful, you just want to hold on. Plus, this isn't typical of them either. It gives some spunk. I really like it.

  • Okay, why does this remind me of the Beatles' Abbey Road recordings??? Not any particular song on that album but perhaps the drive...the energy? (the percussion?) Kind of an early 70s feel to it. Can anyone illuminate me??

  • The unleashing of sound at 2:24 was incredible. Got goosebumps.

    .

  • This has put my fear that music is going on a down hill slope to rest. Sure theres a lot of crap out there, but at least artists like this can make up for it. :)

  • Everything about this song is perfect, except for the fact it has to end.

  • @wookie95020 folk rock :)
