Thanks for the question/comment. No, not pure socialism but like all socialist usurpations it occurs gradually and over time, especially in a constitutional republic of once free peoples. It is on it's way and not many of us like it.
But I fully realize that he was speaking to the British people, not Americans per se. Perhaps the folks in England don't mind socialism?
How do you know that they don't represent their people?
They voted for their government.
Do you speak for Americans?
If Benn's message was as enlightening as you claim it is, then why did the British not vote for him in sufficient numbers as to remain enlightened and happy?
Do they need re-educating or something, Marx-style?
The US government has a long history of aggressive anti-socialim aimed and making people scared of it. Tony Benn is not anti-amercan, all of his statements/arguments have a valid point to them, Besides they are not aimed at America rather it's government which does not represent it's people. The role of the government is undeniably to protect the property and interests of the wealthy from the masses.
Are you seriously suggesting that you have a socialist government? The idea is the equall distribution of wealth and the means of production in the hands of the masses. I think your polititians are a wee bit confused.
As An American I say GO TONY! You are what America needs right now! We are a failing society and we need a leader with your charisma and philosophy. You are the greatest living western political philosopher of our time!
I agree, they both speak very true and good idea's. I find it funny that a few morons gave your post a few negative points even though Tony Benn's message is pure logic.

As another American citizen, I find Mr. Benn's speech a moving and very powerful visual argument against socialized dentistry.
As to his politics . . . same old tripe.
PS - Benn and his ilk are still bitter over losing "their American colony". They don't play well with the French either (just for supporting the American Revolution).
PPS - I voted for Bush in each election where even the NYT counted the votes and verified, in the classified section, that Bush did "actually" win - each time.
Benn retired from parliament as he was 83, he wasn't voted out.

Agreed. We're on the other side of the political spectrum of socialism. Too far on the other side.
