A copy shot live on Aug 7th, 2007 of the 1981 Faith Hubley 6 minute animation "Enter Life" playing at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. The film is "an imaginative glimpse at how life on Earth may have begun."

Is this 26 year old cartoon the best scientists in the most powerful nation on earth have to offer as to the origin of life?

Note: The video shot of the film is of low quality - but the video itself playing on a 1980's vintage projector was not much to work with.

Err, well, no. Quite the contrary, actually, which does make you wonder why they haven't updated it. Although, most of the basic theory (the emergence of stable amino acid complexes that are capable of reproduction) is still valid- the only part that's changed is the specifics (RNA proto-chemistry, the role of clay crystal latices, etc).

  • God is the who, Evolution is the how!

  • i've been watching this video since i was 4. LOL

  • I think this has been playing at the Smithsonian for as long as I can remember. It's a classic, and I always sit through it when I visit. Fun Trivia, the voiceover was added after the film was delivered. I've seen the original (sans voiceover) and I prefer the version here.

  • Well if you want a better-looking and more up-to-date video, do a search for "History of the Universe Made Easy"

  • Aww, I have such wonderful memories of this video. I loved watching it with my dad in the museum!

  • I have always loved this video. Anyone know of a better copy of it??

  • I first saw this video while visiting DC as a High School student, in 1982. It's been shown continuously at the Natural History Museum since at least then.
