Unregognised hazard of Gunns Tamar Pulp Mill - Part 1

In 1990, water vapour from the Bowater Paper Mill near Chatanooga was an 'overwhelming contributing factor' in causing white-out conditions on Interstate 75 that led to the worst traffic accident in US history with 16 people killed and dozens seriously injured. The Bowater Mill is 4.8 km from I-75 in a valley similar to the Tamar Valley. The proposed Tamar Pulp mill is less than 1 km from the East Tamar Highway and proposed to be much larger and emit more water vapour (and particulates) than the Bowater Mill. Nowhere in Gunns IIS is the risk of 'artificial fog' addressed. It was never considered by the RPDC, or by Sweco Pic, or by Lennons' Fast Track Approval. Unfortunately such considerations are outside the jurisdiction of the Australian Federal Government. Now view Parts 2 and 3 and write to your State MHA and MLC now and stop this madness!

I am not a 'green' and have worked in your 'real world' for over 20 years with one degree in science and another engineering - most of the 20 years working in stinking kraft pulp mills around the world getting headaches and chronic asthma. greenstelllies. Someone with that sticker on the back of their silver 4WD ute came up behind my car on the West Tamar Highway a month or so ago, and put their high beams on. I was travelling at 100kms an hour overtaking another car. Greenstelllies 4WD ute effectively blinded me and almost ran me off the road with an 8 year old child in the my car. I am not surprised adelantetas. My experience of the greenstelllies brigade is that they do not live by the maxim 'live and let live'. So long as they have enough dollars in their pockets at the end of the day to drink themselves blind in the pub (the likely condition of the driver of the grey 4WD) at the ned of the day, they think the world is OK. 'Arbeit macht frie' is the maxim of most of them and in another age and another country most of them would be queuing up to join the SS.

No mention that the GOVERNMENT forced Bowaters to construct cooling ponds. Warm water + cool air = fog. But, they can't sue the government!

Some might reason that the truckers (and others) who ignored the HUGE fog warning signs and plowed through at 75 without slowing down might be at fault.

But, NO. Let's sue the evil business, the largest employer in McMinn County.

Well, it's a shame 4 out of five Tasmanians, when asked at the ballot box, voted, YES I WANT THIS STUPID MILL PROJECT on March 20, cos frankly, I don't think they're gonna get it.
