@easonrevant I know there are some people that could do that, but I am talking about the majority of people. I agree that most people can be self taught on lower/introductory level math (or othere subjects) but I think most people would excel at a faster and better rate if taught.

YouTube is bullshit!!! Yet another broken video!!! I'm going to write comments like this on all the broken videos I find - hopefully these comments get indexed also.

He is one man, probably with a very high IQ. Most people would not ba able to learn what he did in the same amount of time. We have other things to do than being in school or learning so we need a route that will help us learn in a quicker and more efficient matter

I agree that there is a false monopoly on education, but US education is more about indoctrination & 'proper' citizenship. Mostly, teachers are highly educated child-sitters.
Granted there is advanced study that requires professorship (think doctoring & building airplane & bridges).
Likewise, it is informative to have feedback when learning to communicate well & to write effectively.
If most studies cannot be learned though books why do we ALLOW home-schooling?
Surely the Bible is not sufficnt.

Note: my comment was a reply to Artielanger.
Inmendham, for once I do not agree with you: education is a racket. If people want to learn, they will learn with or without teachers. Give them high-quality (university-quality) libraries, give them access to actual practitioners of the disciplines they wish to study. Have free "voluntary learning communities". We don't need to pay for the privilege of sending kids to indoctrination camps, thereby supporting the academic fiefdoms.

wrong. Ramanujan was self-taught: in terms of raw skill, he was the best mathematician of all time (yes, in raw skill he was better than the likes of Euler even); he started with a couple of outdated high school math textbooks and from there derived most of Western mathematics HIMSELF then went on to develop theories of theta functions and modular functions.
Read the book "Deschooling Society".

I doubt most people could learn advanced math or quantum physics by just reading a book. You need the interaction with others. By me watching some video might help me but another person might learn differently and he needs different instruction.

So every lesson you have electronically you would keep updating everyday to fit with new findings.
If you've ever studied under a truly excellent teacher, you know that there is no substitute for face to face instruction. Real learning is much more than just pumping your mind full of facts in order to meet a knowledge standard; it's an incredibly enriching process of learning how to think. I can't muster much respect for people who launch generalized, bitter attacks on teachers.

Think of Saudi Arabia where a few get uber rich from oil. Is it really good to have them keep all that money within their family? Do they really "earn" all that wealth?
