I never worked for a railroad. Only relative that did was a very distant cousin who was the "Chief Locator" for the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad when it was being built. He picked the route for that road.

Probably more than half of America's original railroad system is gone, abandoned.  I think that the surviving freight system is fairly healthy. Amtrak is our national passenger system and is subsidized by the government.

Looking at all the stuff you have put on YouTube I see you have a real passion for trains. Did you work at all for the railways? We have a very small rail network left in the UK. It was nationalized after the war but broken up again and resold to private companies about 12 years ago. We have a limited amount of stock but a wide range of mostly badly designed liveries (the designs seem to have the sole purpose of hiding the dirt). .

Life for me has not been too bad, and that place in Bourne has been a very special bonus. My grandfather bought it 60 years ago and my family, of which I am the only one left, has had it all this time. Town is now taxing me out of the place. They have to pay what the labor unions demand. Unions very strong here.

Had a look at "Goodbye to Bourne", It strikes me you have had a typically American life ( if there is such a thing ) and very special one living in that part of the world, you have a lot to thank your ancestors for making that journey to a new land. Some said that the first Kingman to land here in America came from Wales. Some just say England. It was around 1635.

I love New York too. One can get there in about 5 hours via train. I used to go down there and spend the afternoon walking around Manhattan. It was a happy place in the 80s and 90s., and is again now.

I prefer New York especially this time of year ( have been twice in my very limited travels ) but I have to say New England has always sounded and looked wonderful. 362 years is a very exact number to be able to trace back your family. Do you know what part of England the original folks came from?

Someday before I die I want to see London. My ancestors came from England about 362 years ago. London has always fascinated me. I guess that it is a huge huge city, kind of like our New York. Boston is like a little London and NYC combination.
