Good luck on your new semester, it will surely be a blast. If you have any question about the community or activities feel free to ask me. You can always look at the website I emailed you and it gives you a good indicator of when the Northern Lights will be the strongest. I've met a lot of ppl from Seattle and Eugene in Fairbanks I guess cuz it's fairly close to AK so you shouldn't feel out of your comfort zone.

@sinsohana Hoping for the best, cant wait to get up there I have wanted to live in Alaska my whole life! It will be nice to get out of the city. I guess we will just have to see. Have you been to Alaska before going from Texas to Fairbanks?

@MARSOC754 It's really not that bad, hopefully your body will adjust to the climate well. I'm originally from south texas, our winter temps are around 45 degrees & our summers temps are 113 degrees (not factoring in the humidity) & I adjusted to the climate very well. I'm from a big city so I did have some trouble adjusting to small town life but it's nice to not sit in traffic for hours on end. 3 hrs of light during winter & 23 hrs of light during summer also took about 2 weeks to get used to.

@sinsohana Thank you! Oh just great..we dont have winters like that in Seattle its gona be an interesting climate change..lol
Thanks for showing the video. I'm planning on going to UAF for graduate school. I'm from Alabama where we have pretty much no snow! So it will be a shock to my system. LOL. Just curious do you have a car? I can't figure out do I need to find a way to bring my car or buy a car when I get there or can I just survive without one. What do you think? Thanks again for the video.

@GorgeousCourtney Hey Courtney, I wouldn't worry about the snow nor the cold weather cuz I'm sure your body will adjust well. One thing that did get me was the dry climate. In Texas where I lived it was extremely humid all the time so when I went up there and dealt with the dry air it really did on number on my nasal passages becoming too dry but that went away within a few weeks. You can survive without a car cuz you can take the bus for free and everything is close by.

@sinsohana Fairbanks is also a military town with an Air Force and Army base so ppl are always selling their vehicles. It might be better on you to buy something up there rather than bring your car from Alabama. It can def. be done cuz I have friends that have driven from Fairbanks to Alabama but it's expensive and time consuming but you get to see the wonderful landscape so that's great too. I didn't have a car for 8 months then I bought one to travel around the state. Good luck on your move.

Great video! It's so beautiful up there. I'm from Massachusetts and I'm thinking of transferring to UAF next fall for Petroleum Engineering. How are the freshman dorms that you mentioned in your video? Also, is it a generally friendly campus?
TheTrevorAdams 2 months ago
@TheTrevorAdams The campus & town are extremely friendly. I lived in Cutler Apts & they were great, but I did work @ Moore hall which houses freshmen. The rooms aren't that big but most dorms in universities are small, the kitchen is on the first floor, every floor has restrooms/showers since there isn't any in the dorm rooms. I would suggest getting a double room instead of single room cuz you meet more ppl. I would often get complaints from students in single rooms stating they were bored.
