Paper Wasp Queen Asleep At Night 初期巣を守る夜のコアシナガバチ女王

Founding queen of the small paper wasp (Polistes snelleni, family Vespidae) resting at night on her nest made behind a satellite dish. Early-May 2009 in Japan.

ある晩、民家のパラボラアンテナの裏側にコアシナガバチの初期巣を発見。育房の幾つかは産卵済みのようだ。女王蜂が巣に止まって休んでいた。白色LEDの懐中電灯で照らし­ても女王は逃げず、ほぼ無反応。アシナガバチは夜もアリなど侵入者への警戒を怠らず、常に巣柄側に頭を向けて休むらしい。
本当はBGMに「夜の女王のアリア」を使いたかったが、audioswapのレパートリーに用意されていなくて残念。
