A review of vintage stereo components, mostly made in America from the early 1960's to the 1970's. Many quality component systems were made in American during that era, and many of them still offer outstanding listening quality and are of very high value even today. Altec Lansing & J B Lansing made some very impressive sound systems from the 1940's up for industry, and the home. • Oh... those JBL C-36 & C-38's with the Bullet Tweeters. What I would do to have a pair of those in that condition!

  • @TwinMillMC Hi The contemporary JBL Harlan at 3:10 is mine, and it does have the 075 Bullet tweeter, with the 175 DLH, and two D-130 bass speakers

  • It's amazing that tube amps still deliver the richest sound. I'll never forget my friends Magnapan Tympanies,tri-amped with Audio Research Dual 76A's and the legendary SP3A1 pre-amp.

  • @floridafyme I also have the large Magneplanar Tympani speakers. I had a tri-amp setup with a Nakamichi electronic crossover, McIntosh 2300 on the Magneplanars, and a GAS 400 watt amp on the sub-woofers which were the KEF 9x13 woofesr in a 9 ft transmission line bass enclosure, and being small they kept up with the fast bi-polar Magneplanars. It's difficult to use larger woofers with electrostatic or bi-polars as their response is too slow & can't keep up. It was my favorite system.

  • Those are some very cool high-end equipment! Are some of them yours?

  • @Vinylrecordsneverdie Hi Miguel. The following featured in the video I have, the JBl Harlan, a Thorens TD-125, not in black, the large white Magneplanar Tympani 1-C, the Quad electrostatics, the McIntosh MR-67, Rek O Kut .I had the Capistrano, and I did have large Altec custom made speakers with 4 515-B woofers and horns, that I sold many years ago, and a piano mover had to move them. I also had the Marantz 8B amp and foolishly sold it many years ago. Good to hear from you Miguel

  • I could converse for days, vintage high end audio. I got hooked in the late 60's. While I have never owned any, McIntosh gets the blue ribbon for sex appeal.

  • Nice song bill and machines lol love the fisher 500

  • As usual maynardcat you have outdone yourself with this one. Thanks for sharing so many unusual and rare pictures of gear we may never see first hand.

Funny, a friend and I, went in a couple of stores the other day and nothing compares aesthetically to some of the old vintage equipment. Very few components stand out like the examples you show here.

  • @zorgen12 ROTFL Do you remember what you were listening to?

  • Back in the 70's I had a friend with McIntosh stereo equipment and the JBL Paragon speaker. It was in the basement and I cranked it up and cracked the window in the room. I turned it off and slinked away like a guilty snake and never told him.

  • Wow, what a trip down memory lane, my dad had a lot of this as he was a professional dj and we had to load and unload his car. Thank you for the posting and the music was delightful and calming. Many thanks, still have my turntable and albums.
