Watch his left hand - the fingers fly all over the place. Unclean fretting. He never learned how to apply the left hand and he doesn't hear his own mistakes caused by the imprecision. Now go watch Tony Rice play the same piece. Note the economy of motion in both hands. This is mastery.

One thing that I have learned about Bluegrass. Is even the Pros have some days where they sound like shit. But a good Martin, medium strings, tortoise shell pick, ivory nut and saddle. A good pickin friend and a stingin cold half rack of beer. You can't go wrong. Cheers! to all the pickers out there!

i think his lessons are pretty good...anyone who says he sucks, lets see them do better. whereas i think some of expertvillage's videos are crappy, these lessons are pretty good and i learn a lot just by watching!

Good advice for those learning flat picking, no matter what your age. To bad younger people can't use their brain instead of their mouth. Thanks for the post and keep up the good work.

I don't why everyone is complaining. This is a great lesson for a very challenging song if played correctly. I wonder how many of u can actually flatpick or "backpick"? Stop saying this is sloppy, I wanna see you all play this.post a video
