A national iIcon has been ripped off for personal favorations. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka is an indispensable Firewall for Sri Lanka. (Link to original video http://www.groundviews.org/2009/08/01/dayan-jayatilleka-from-geneva-to-sri-la...)

Sri Lanka is a disappointing place for moderate intelectuals like Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka because of political slavery and blunt politicos.

He defended Sri Lanka against unintended Human Rights violations, anti-Sri Lanka propaganda in the international frontline. He lead and won UNHRC debate on war crime charges against Sri Lanka during last stage of war against LTTE terrorism, later he was sacked by the same government he defended. The war could continue untll end thanks to the work done by Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka and team at UNHRC. There was enormous pressure to Sri Lanka at last stage of war. He blocked all threats and gave opportunity for our soldiers to totally wipe out LTTE leadership.

Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka is a part of Sri Lankan victory against terrorism. What we now need is to reorganize the corrupted (political) system. Thank you Dr. Dayan, and Prof. Rajiva for the tremendous job at UNHRC in Geneva!

Dr. Dayans termination is a huge mistake and an embarrasment to Sri Lanka.

When right, keep it right. When wrong, make it right!

Recorded on 31st July 2009, this was the first interview on video given by Dayan Jayatilleka after he was asked to quit his position as Sri Lankas Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva a few weeks ago. Going into the reasons behind his sudden sacking, the interview interrogates his most contentious submissions regarding the 13th Amendment, his take on the current Presidency and future prospects for peace in Sri Lanka, key memories of his sojourn in Geneva including the epic Human Rights Council sessions and other issues related to politics and democracy. I also ventured to ask some impertinent questions about his love life, given that for the duration of the interview, he was flanked by his wife Sanja.

  • give the gov chance...do we have a choice..theirs no oppassion as much as i like what this gov doing all over the country i am still not convinced wether this is a peace time gov.dictators banning everything they dont like....may be its the way to go with all the social and economic presures avg sri lankans have only time will tell.down turn in uk economy was enought for people to vote for nationalist party.

  • debora, frankmen, MR govt doing fine on overall performance but heading towards Taliban. no respect for critics. porn ban, alcohol ban, smoke ban, mobile phone ban. next? TV ban? inernet ban? common ppl. we are sri lankans. but not sexless sri lankans. those issues need to be tackle in softer way. through awareness programes... We need controls not bans. Can artists above 60 yrs decide a porn a ban? can president control desires of citizens a country? Dont let MR to abuse his popularity.

  • I also do feel sorry about Dayan. Some journalists and academics can talk at great length about the subject of power sharing etc. Good for them. But we've actually seen many of thoese and many failures before, just give this government a chance man. They have just started!

  • frankmen3, True Government nees some time but DJ issue divides sinhalese who supported government. president should have given DJ deserved credit for the duty he has done. I am sadden of his departure, he should have been warned or corrected without sacking him. Sri Lanka needs a person like DJ in international frontline to tell the world that sinhalese reasonable people. I am for Sinhala-buddhist based solution. But Tamils also needs deserve place. I do support MR but ppl around down him.

  • Also stabbed in the back by, as even Dayan's critic HLD Mahindapalal described him, "that bovine tailor's dummy Rohitha Bogollagama"

  • Dayan a brilliant no nonsense diplomat, upheld Sri Lanka's dignity and rights under scathing attacks from the west. , yet the foreign ministry chose to remove him from his post. I suspected that he was stabbed in the back by that woman ex-HC to uk. Now she has gone to take Dayan's job in Geneva. Dayan criticized this woman for being a terrorist torch holder. Now that rag has gone to geneva to conspire with navi Pillai and terrorist lovers in Swiss. GOSL you are as blind as a bat. God help u..

  • Brilliantly answered for the ltte bitch

  • NoEalamInSL I agree... yes it is sad see his unexpected departure. Most recent top military shake-out tells you a very similar story. I dont think govt can afford to have any inside disagreements/criticism at this stage, which is understandable after a very difficult war. Most of the developed Asian nations hardly exercised 5-star political/media freedom and corruption free economies in their path to economic growth and development, and I think this govt is taking a very similar direction.

  • It is so sad that we are going to loose him. A great person.
