Egyptian forces have attempted to close the border with Gaza, breached by Hamas days earlier, but Hamas fighters used a bulldozer to keep the border open.

Al Jazeera's Jacky Rowalnd, reporting from the Gazan side of the border, watched the events unfold.

  • @hehehe929 Lastly...."The Daily Star" 06/03/2011

BEIRUT: Hezbollah praised Monday the Egyptian decision to open the Rafah border with Gaza, partially lifting the siege on the Palestinian people. “Hezbollah, which always requested the opening of the crossing, and considers it a national, moral and humanitarian request to ease the suffering of the Palestinian people, congratulates the Egyptian authorities for their decision."

This provides legal and "open" access for the first time since 2007.

  • @hehehe929 I can say that watching people starve to death was not a righteous act and supporting someone as they inflict pain on another is no different than inflicting it yourself. The US continues to support Israel, while striving toward peace. I wish that there actually WAS some sort of news coverage here that would help me understand this better. So far, I simply don't.

  • @hehehe929 We held slavery as a "States' right' and killed one another to defend it. There is no defense of this inhuman behavior.

So looking into the mirror as one must do to see the world and understand it fully, one must ask at times, am I standing on the side of the righteous? That level of judgment requires hundreds of years of historical perspective in the case of the Palestinian conflict and more thought than CNN can put into perspective in it's last few months of so-so coverage.

  • @hehehe929 I think I was expressing my own shock more than anything. All countries believe themselves to be "right" or good. It's painful to face the truth of not always being on the side of "good". We're as much victims of our own ignorance of events as we are a form of perpetual propaganda. We're comfortable holding our leaders accountable for moral crimes (infidelity) while just beginning to face the horror of our crimes against humanity.

  • @JRM733 This happened 3 years ago, since the revolution a few months ago ( you would have watched it if you watched the news ) the border has now re-opened the Egyptian brothers and sisters now stand along side their Palestinian sisters and brothers. Arab people non-extremests united as one, as it will and should have always been.

  • see how they do the same to israel but egypt gets a pass..palestinians are some nasty dirty rude people

  • Empress of the French from the American, British and Jews you will get money, from the ungrateful Arabs-Africans-Persians, Chinese and Koreans you will be lucky to escape with your life and maybe the clothes you are in. In NY you will fill your pockets with Jewish dollars, In Yemen if you do not die from malaria you will be stabbed in the street by a dark skinned follower of Mohamed.

  • @MrAugustus88 Stop persecuting the jews, what a joke. There is no dealing with jews. They will stab you in the back in a NY second.
