One time I did a bootscan on a laptop, It took like 3-6 hours to complete. It was so long. Well, It was a McAfee Boot Scan. Or maybe it was Avast.

i would like to ask you something afoHT, i really love avast but there are some situations where my computer was ruined due to the fact that i had a virus imbedded on an important file and upon deleting it i ended up ruining my computer, so my question is how would i avoid ruining my computer if i ran a boot time scan and found a virus on an important file? last time i had some form of trojan on my BOOT.INI file and i couldnt boot my computer so i want to avoid a reoccurence
Thanks in advance

Hi, xelane4454. Yes sometimes it can go so bad but there is some solutions. I don't know which is best for you or others at a particular moment, but I would try to find the problem and then try to solve it. If your BOOT.ini is demolished that don't mean your computer is ruined, only that it have some problems booting.
I think it's the best way to first try to REPAIR the file in avast! bootscan, then if failure REMOVE. To be sure you have gotten rid of the virus, then starting to repair your OS
