I was the one running the Mazda Miata on the OCRC El Toro track with the Porsche Owners Club (POC) last weekend (the 1/13 and 1/14) and decided to put up a video with instructions gleaned off my instructors. Most haven't been to this track yet, and I didn't see too many videos up, so here's mine.

I think my best lap was a 1:54 that day on street tires. I pick up the pace on the second lap in the video. Nothing fast, but ok for a Miata I guess. I got slightly slower times driving my friend's BSR spec boxster on street tires, but it was the first time I ever drove it. Is a very fun car, might be buying one soon.

Any POC instructors want to chime in? I know there's lots of time to cut off my time.

This is a great track! In my amateur opinion, is one of those rare tracks where really pushing it will really reward you without too much risk. A great track with many places to see just how late you can brake and how early you can get on gas without losing it.

  • I was there last year when the track was smaller. In addition to my car I drove my buddies car who has the same car but supercharged. I went around what used to be the last turn, the one you said WTF were the designers thinking, and the charger kicked in mide Apex, i spun out on track right (by stander area) 2.5 times, but never came close to the by standers. So I guess it is near idiot proof :)

  • Nice video. Was there on Saturday. Black 996 turbo. Had a good time.

  • Great driving! Yeah, I saw you gridded behind me a few times. Nice to watch you take a different line. I'm looking forward to running there again.
