This is a promotional that was shown at Macworld 2003 (June 23, 2003) about the new Power Mac G5 whitch ran 64 bit applications. It started at $1,999.00 for a Dual 1.8GHz with a Superdrive, $2,499.00 for a Dual 2.0GHz with a Superdrve and $2,999.00 for a Dual 2.5GHz with a Superdrive. These computers lasted 1 year, and 14 days. On August 31, 2004, they were replaced by the New Power Mac G5 FX, then later it was replaced by the Mac Pro with a Xeon Processor from Intel on August 7, 2006

Sorry for the audio qauality. I'll try to find a better video codec.

  • the mac pro has an intel xeon, not a core 2 duo.

  • G5 is REALLY a kickass machine even today.

hey i'm going to get Leopard today... it will blow Vista away another time

  • I've got the G5 2.5 ghz dual processor model and recently swapped the video card for an nVidia 7800GS SC and I'm getting about 2000 fps OpenGL at 1920x1080. I'm pretty much maxed out for ram, I could add another gig. I've got about 3 TB of disc spinning inside the box and another 2 outside. If it blows up I'll grab the next Mac Pro or the like. It's been a great machine. That case will outlast the computer.

  • @devan12100 The architecture is not the difference between a Xeon and a "home" CPU. Xeons have interconnect for dual + more processors something that ordinary intels haven't had for generations. Xeons also have larger cache. "higher quality transistors" :) *hint* They Xeons and "home" intel's are manufactured from the same wafers.

  • I still have my original G5 that was bought on release day. With a simple mod you could install 8 disks in it. This is still a great disk server. Way ahead of its time. Isn't it also interesting that Windows must have specific 64bit OS/Programs. Why don't Apple need that? Why have Unix been 64bit since 1995 and Windows just recently?

  • @needmac well, the truth is, the original Mac Pro used the Xeon. True. But the Xeon of that time was based on the Core 2 architecture... the only difference is that the Xeon of that time was a C2D that was built for industrial use; higher quality transistors and other internals :)

  • @bgggbb Check out that it doesn't have liquid cooling and that it has an AGP Pro slot so you can put a better card.

  • I play on buying the dual 1.8ghz tomorrow for $275. Is that a good price?

  • @Mat5913 Funny thing is I hated Macs before Vista came out. Now I hate Vista and love Mac xD

  • nice! but the audio sucked...

  • still a cool machine!

  • @Mat5913 The only problem with the G5 is that Apple have lost support for it after they moved to intel, if apple still fully supported it the Powermac G5s would still be a very fast and very usefull computer today

  • @niceveritt it was a powermac g5

    not a pro
