Disclaimer: I am not a professional financial advisor. Anything discussed in this video series is simply what has worked for my husband and me.
This is a video about merging your finances once you are married (or just choose to share your money with another individual in some way).
This is part 1 of my 3 part series on organizing your home finances. Sorry the cuts are a little jumpy. Hard to get back into the swing of recording videos like these :)

My husband and I merged our accounts right away when we got married. We have every dollar budgeted for and we each have our own "fun money" that we get every month. I agree, it's nice to have our own money, but still be staying within a budget so we're being smart with our money.

Thanks for sharing! I found this very helpful. I like the idea of putting equal amounts into your personal accounts.

...so we could pay our bills and purchases with that each month and then pay it off at the end. Then we would be earning miles or cash back. I am interested to hear if you guys do something similar too. Thank again!

I love that you are doing this series because my husband and I are going through the exact same process right now! We have been married over a year and like you had our separate with a % going into the joint. We recently switched to having it all go into our joint and only a certain amount going to our own "fun money" accounts. Now we are in the process of diving deeper into our budget so we can be saving more. We have also talked to some people about moving towards using a rewards credit card

We kept our separate accounts for awhile while having a joint count for living expenses and eventually we grew from that to having one account and having a budget for "fun play money." Having a budget is a great tool!
