Law enforcement officers from across the area and throughout Texas are remembering Officer Lisa Beaulieu.
Funeral services for Officer Beaulieu were held Monday at the Beaumont Civic Center. She was buried at Oak Bluff Cemetery in Port Neches.
She is the first female Beaumont police officer killed in the line of duty.
The 36 year old officer died early Friday morning after she was struck by a car while directing traffic around an accident scene on the Delaware Street overpass of the Eastex Freeway.
The man who struck her is charged with intoxication manslaughter.
Officer Beaulieu began her police career as a dispatcher in Beaumont in January of 1997.
She became a sworn officer in June of 2001.
I am so shocked and sadden to hear of this tragedy for this beloved officer. I can't understand why the man who struck her was insensitive enough to be driving drunk like that. It should have been a wake up call for people to stop the dangerous cycle of drinking while driving. My condolences to the police department of Beaumont for their loss, including to the family of Officer Beaulieu. She will be in your thoughts and heart... as a proud member of your outstanding police department.
