C-5B Galaxy
Static Display Arrival

2007 NAS Oceana Airshow
NAS Oceana, Virginia Beach, VA
Thursday September 6, 2007

IN THIS VIDEO, watch as a C-5 Galaxy from the 439th Airlift Wing in Westover, MA makes a spectacular arrival into NAS Oceana. In speaking with one of the crew members from the 439th AW on Friday night, I found out that they were at about 5,000 feet and going less than 200 knots while going into the initial for the overhead. The video is shot from a spot off Oceana Blvd as the C-5 flies over my head for a landing on Runway 23L.

If you are interested in purchasing DVDs of specific aircraft or of airshows, interested in everything related to airshows (where the jet teams will be, all airshow performers, airshow reports from airshows I have attended, previews of airshows I will be attending, etc.), and/or everything related to aviation - including spotting guides to my favorite airports and military bases and aircraft factfiles, please check out Steve's Airshow World at http://www.stevesairshow.com .

  • holy shit.. this sound is awesome! did the sound came from the turbines? oder the aerodynamics off the plane/flaps?

  • Except when you live in barracks >1/2 mile from the end of the runway of Pope AFB. Yeah ther'e's nothing better than a few of those coming in @ O-dark:30. When we were in formation and they were taking off in our direction, 1SG Alapai would have to stop his briefing until it got quiet enough for us to hear again. And that was in an the 82d Airborne's Armor unit. Not a unit unfamiliar with loud noise.

  • When I was in bootcamp at NAS San Diego, my barracks was right at the end of a 12000 foot runway. I literally mean right at the end! We used to sneak up to the roof, and lay there on our backs watching planes fly over us. They were so close, you could read the stencils in the wheel wells. The C-5 was our favorite one. It would rumble your chest like nothing else could.

  • Sounds similar to a DC-10

  • i live not to far from westover, and see them fly over my house daily...i still look up evertytime...its amazing something that large can even get off the ground

  • Why in the hell is OCEANA such a cool name? It reminds me of friggin' Atlantis or something. I still love vacationing in the Outer Banks and trying to find the F14s in the sky cruising by headed towards FL or back. Nothin better than seeing America's fighters protecting our asses from those stinking terrorists

  • jake hujostwo

  • i live next to Whiteman AFB...in knob noster missouri..when the C5 Galaxy takes off or lands..i hear that insane whine,,,,,,.im always running outside to watch it ..its a rarity to see this...i can watch B2 stealths and A-10s all day everyday..but when the C5 is up and flying over my house..makes my heart beat ...

  • It has a very distinct whine, like the dauphin helicopter. Has it ever cause a false air raid siren alarm?

  • that is totally amazing!!!
