Ironically, the Smokey the Bear ads were used during World War II because we needed the forests to make materials for the war. So basically we were saving the trees just so they could get chopped down and made into gunstocks!

Wildfires could also result from people who are ignorant enough to leave a campfire going after they strike camp and go home, as most of us know. They could also result from people who ignore warnings about dry weather conditions, from which even lighting a small cooking fire could result in disaster if we're not careful. I don't want to see a camp tradition die - but I also don't want to ruin the environment and force people out of their homes through ignorance and carelessness.
