Part one of a two-part look at one of the best sequences of the movie "The Final Countdown" (© 1980, Polyc International, B.V.), showing two F-14 Tomcat fighter-interceptor jets, launched from the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Nimitz, identifying various contacts, and then engaging two of them (two Japanese Zero fighter planes) after being carried back in time by a strange storm. Awesome footage from an awesome movie (from the era of the cold war between the United States and the former Soviet Union)!

Hat's off to the naval aviators who did the top-shelf flying in this movie!

  • There's nothing to debate. If Google is not to be believed then a check of the names of all U.S. senators in 1941 would prove it. It would be a perfect, but rear, example of being able to prove a NEGATIVE.

  • @isuckaman I don't need to check any list of U.S. senators in 1941. Once agaaaaaaiiin, it's a science fiction film, not a documentary. The list of characters is fictional.

    Time to move on.

  • There never was a senator Samuel Chapman.

  • @isuckaman I don't see anyone debating that. It is, after all, a science fiction movie, not a documentary. Pretty much every character in this movie is a fictional construct. The only real "character" is the U.S.S. Nimitz, which was actually in service during the filming.

  • hey does any1 know where i can see this movie online?(plz reply)

  • "hmmmnn.... contact" i always LOL hard with that.

  • @JerseyCaptain lol.. I believe it's $3.99 at Walmart.

  • 30 year old American technology.... Still would take Iran in a day or two.

  • Charlie was barking because he heard a couple of 'Cats.

I'm sure the F-18 is a lovely aircraft and a worthy successor to the Tomcat, but no more bad-ass looking war bird than the F-14 ever existed, nor likely ever will. It looked the part from every angle. If looks could kill, the F-14 was deadly without even firing a shot.

  • Just heard on an aircraft carrier documentary from a Nimitz crewman. Nimitz = Never Imagined Myself In This Zoo. *Lol*

  • 3:10 F-14 jousting match!

  • 2:25 Improbable as the film might be - If you do not get a bit of a rush when the F 14's do a low fast pass over the yacht, then check your pulse, you might be dead.

  • F-14 vs. Zero. Take your pick.

  • @frankydman Now there are 4 people :-) That would be an awesome movie!!!

  • that A-6 appeared out of nowhere
