http://www.sierrahull.com/ At Cumberland Caverns, Tennessee for the Bluegrass Underground Series on August 21, 2010 Sierra Hull, mandolin vocals: Ron Block, guitar banjo vocals: Clay Hess guitar, mandolin, vocals: Christian Ward -fiddle: Jacob Eller-bass/
snake, one more thought. Look up 'sierra hull veeskitty' here on youtube.
first up, you'll find Sierra many years ago, playing Salt Creek with Ron. There, she quotes the melody in the first solo, traditional style. Her second solo is absolutely wild, and look at Ron's reaction. He invites her to close, which she gives the nicest smile for, and there she mixes them.
She knows how to do that way, too, as I suspect do you: cheers.

snake, listen to Tony Rice in general or on this tune some time, or for that matter, Clay here....and the melody is there, think you'll find. It's just got a good deal of excitement weaving and stretching on it, out there til the end. It is the blues...
The tony rice, mark o'connor, bela fleck version here on youtube - won't let me link it. Mark O'Connor actually out-does himself; they all do. Hope you enjoy.

Just terrific, Clay - you had me really laughing on the 'old tote sack', and that guitar solo was no other word but magnificent. The rest, you know who you are...;)
I do keep thinking that Christian's fiddle needs to come up in the mix, beyond what the videocam mic does to things. He makes such nice tone, and that's a thing to be worked in - he's good at backing out and down too, so it can balance. A thought, and it might be wrong too - you'll know who've been in audience.
