Following Aicha Chenna's win of the Opus Prize this year. The Washington Moroccan Club has organized a community event that hosted, thanked and celebrated Ms Ech Chenna's lifetime work and her recent recognition by the Opus Prize jury. Ms. Chenna encouraged the community to organize and become more active in support of the needy in Morocco. She said " why would not we add another "million dollar" contribution from the community to help various social actions".
Ms Chenna said Moroccans can be very generous when they are comfortable that their charity will be put to good use. She also asked the audience for more patience because the mentalities are slow to change. " I was taken to court in th eighties by the Islamists because they accused me of "encouraging debauchery" by helping single mothers, Now many of them support our actions and understand our aims"
MoroccoBoard TV was on hand to cover the event and record an interview, produced by Mr. Said Zriri and AVA's Mohamed El Hajjam, with Ms Chenna.
