Obviously mars was at one point in infinite time orbiting the sun in 'the life orbit', not too hot, not too cold, up comes water (life). Mars was likely covered in life of the ilk of what earth is today, the slowburn flame of carbohydrogen based stuff we term 'life'. Well then the sun cooled more and our own too hot planet becomes what we know today, now 'in the right orbit' to create the happyslowburn we are today. Why is this interesting? 'Slowburn of the Vanities', by me, Jeff.

America is the leader in proving time and again that mars is rocks ... and dust.

do the math the product of the mass and velocity of the bullet will equal the product of mass and velocity of you (mV=mV)

if you shot a gun in space will it send you flying?

OK if warp can't be done, then what about bending the space, just asking?

The ONLY other place in the universe besides earth and the moon that humans are ever going to go is Mars. (You can dream about warp drive all you want. Unless the laws of physics change, it aint happening.) Does America want the rest of human history to record that the first to get there were the Russians or Chinese? It should be a multinational effort anyhow but the USA better get moving or its going to be left behind!

Ya concidering a german designed the rocket that took men to the moon
JPL is perhaps the best place to work in America.

Thats not really true. We could build space stations around any body in the solar system. Small scale habitation is technically feasible on all the inner planets (except maybe Venus) and most of the outer giant moons. If you get a bit more imaginative but still cast aside warp drive, with a decent nuclear pulse propulsion system you could reach the Alpha Centauri cluster in just a few years.
