What made the Philippines poor are the same people who can make them rich. Think about it....

Babies when grown ups are resources. The government mismanages they have capital but don't know what or which to invest, influenced by the international banks, your invention is not funded if it is against the interest of this banks. This banks need borrowers for life and don't want any borrower to scape their clout. You can never blame the people, because the responsibility is always on the leader, if a company fails or mismanaged, the President or CEO is to blame.

The Philippines is one of the most corrupt countries in the world but at par from its African counterparts. It need infusion of new knowledge from "new" people. All the elected officials need to vanish and be replaced by these "new" people. No dynasty/ no nepotism. No power transfer to cronies . Just a new batch of people who really care for the growth and rise of the country. but who are they?

& now although we have an independence the filipinos should used dz kind of dirty tactics by the government using their power & knowledge for the uneducated filipinos who gets their votes in election now for being poor of filipinos their commit crimes until now so sad
Before WWII, Old folks told me that $1=1peso, Philippines wasn't an industrialized country but producing sugar, coconut and tobacco for the least with reserved gold and mineral resources. Then after the war of Japan and the USA which Philippines was a reduced to a battle ground, the Phillipine Government signed a Free Trade Agreement with the Industrial US. American Products kept coming to Philippines like a push button. So that's when the Philippine industry died a natural death.

@zemezman and the manipulation of the few rich "Filipinos" plus the traditional politicians did not focus on industrialization or in making big branded factories for people to work so they can pay taxes but outside private companies took over much of the companies where people work. In short for sure, whoever the president is, he will be asking for more foreign investment tied with lack of own industrialization. If the late Pres. Magsaysay, Mechanical Engineer id not die an accident, what...
