Up for sale is this vintage 1967 Magnavox portable stereo phonograph.

It's called a "portable", but due to its weight and robust design, I've never seen it as such. It has such a small footprint, this record player will easily fit on a bookshelf and fold up when not in use. Classic design, nice lines. I replaced the needle when I bought it last year, but I've used it so much since then I would probably replace it. They can be had for as little as $5 here on Ebay. I would not be selling this, but I've moved into a tiny house and just flat don't have room for all of my stereo equipment.

  • Why does the needle knock the edge of the record before switching?

  • @FuckingStanz It's measuring the diameter of the record before it drops to see where it should place the needle.

  • yes

  • Was this sold on Ebay already? Also, do you know the model number? Thank you for sharing.

  • yes, this has been sold. it went pretty quickly on ebay.

  • I had a GE Wildcat I sold a few years ago. Hands down, Magnavox was better on every front....quality of construction, audio fidelity, stylus pressure. To be fair, I don't think they were in the same class...the Wildcat was strictly a portable and this is sort of a hybrid.

  • How much did you get for it?

Oh ja, I like that Sugar Shack....

  • How much did you get for it?

  • I have one of these that I'm looking to restore. Are you of anyone who does so? @cliftdean

  • I received one from Santa 1966 Christmas, in 7th Grade, 12 years old....it was a unit exactly like this from G.C. Murphy Co....the Annex....it was a Philco Stereo tilt down just like this in Blue.....We still have it in Storage in my Mother's Attic.....HTH in Wheeling, WV

  • Sugar Shack!!

  • Great unit!

  • i have a similar model, but i was wondering if you know how to change the needle and what kind it uses, thanks

  • I was going to email that question to Magnavox, but believe it or not they do not have an Email address!

  • I have a very similar player. It is white/gray with the same case, but only three knobs on the front and two knobs on the player deck. The badge on the deck says Magnavox Automatic 400. The 45 stack adapter is missing, but was rectangular and clipped into a holder on the inside sidewall. The turntable is slightly smaller, but it plays 78, 45, 33, and 16's. Can anyone tell me what years these were manufactured? It looks 60's maybe very early 70's.

  • what's the name of that first song?
