MaximsNewsGLOBAL: 19 May 2010 - WFP: Port-au-Prince, Haiti - World Food Programmes (WFP) new goodwill ambassador Christina Aguilera and her husband Jordan Bratman participated in school feeding programmes in quake-stricken Haiti last week.

Together with her husband Jordan Bratman, the singer toured with WFP aid workers and spent time with mothers and children who have found refuge in camps after the January earthquake.

She visited schools to meet the children receiving food aid through WFP school meal programmes.

Aguilera, who was in Haiti from 10 May, served meals of rice and beans to children at Ecole Lysee Fritz Pierre Louis in Port-au-Prince and Ecole Saint Terese de Darbonne in Leogane.

To see this, children with smiles on their faces and, you know, asking for seconds and just like normal children, being able to have these opportunities, you know, the funny thing is, you know, food it should never be a luxury.

According to WFP, school meals are bringing Haitian children back to the classroom and helping to restore a sense of normality after the trauma of the earthquake.

I'm just thankful that there are aid organizations and people with beautiful hearts in the WFP and so on, that are helping to provide this children with opportunities and nutrition.

Aguilera met WFP Executive Director Josette Sheeran while in Haiti to discuss the hunger response after the earthquake.

During her time with children of Port-au-Prince, Aguilera sang Happy Birthday, Haiti to highlight how reconstruction efforts are giving the long-suffering nation the chance of a new start.

To see this, kids with goals and dreams of their own and it is a really, really beautiful thing to witness and to see that, God, all it takes is a meal just to provide them with the opportunity to achieve their goals, it all starts with proper nutrition and it inspire them to grow and to learn and to achieve whatever they can dream up.

Since the earthquake, WFP has reached more than 449,000 children through school feeding and more than 137,000 malnourished children and pregnant and lactating mothers through supplementary feeding activities.

@Lookdownhereiam Damned if she does, damned if she doesn't. There's cameras because she's a celebrity, a public figure, and that's why she was chosen as a spokesperson for the WFP, to bring media attention to world hunger. She wouldn't be able to do that, and raise money for this cause, if she went to help people anonymously; it's not staged, she's doing something to make the world a better place. And there's nothing sick about it, you judging her for doing something good it's what's sick.
