I am pretty noobish in electronics althought i was able to put together this Drawdio following this schematics http://slab.concordia.ca/2008/arduino/drawdio/

As i couldn't get a 551 timer chip (that runs on a single AAA) i used the 555 (that needs 5v) and a 9V battery that wouldn't hold on top of a pencil so, i opened up one old sony walkman and put the circuit inside.

Couldn't get rid of the sound it makes while you hold the pencil and not in contact with graphite :( but in the end i was very happy that it made different tones.

Hope you enjoy...i did :D

  • cool why does it sound so clicky? btw i thought you were gonna somehow make it so that the pencil minipulates the pitch of the recording from the walkman. if you could do that somehow that would be really cool.

  • @IHaveDimensia Well it sounds so clicky because it was my first attempt to make a drawdio :( the walkman it's just a case for for the breadboard it simply does not work as a walkman.

    thanks for the feedback :)

  • shame it isn't recording this to tape. It would be great to hear that played loud out of a stereo.

Like a reel to reel graphite instrument.

  • that is cool it's like a pencil powered pianol. you could play music with this thing. I can see this being made into a gadget or a toy of some sort.

  • i want this. someone get me this.

  • cool job!

  • this is really awesome video dude!
