Paul Deuchar made his first attempts at business while studying and then graduating as a Bachelor of Engineering with honours, in Mechatronics. In 2004, at the age of 24, he created what is now the largest robotics and engineering company in Western Australia. Today, he says he is living out his life ambition: he loves technology and cannot resist a commercial challenge.

Argon focuses on using technology as a catalyst for innovative, safer and more efficient solutions to real-world problems. By saving labour costs for its clients, Argon is able to reduce their bottom line.

Argon sells engineering solutions and services, and commercialises targeted research and development. Its engineering, science and technical professionals serve the mining, mineral services, manufacturing and defence industries. The team's mechanical, electrical and control engineers have specialist skills in robotics and automation systems.

By 2006, Paul had created business systems and processes for Argon to become the first robotics company to achieve ISO:9001 accreditation in Australia. Paul secured his first multi-million dollar contract in 2007. By 2008, Argon had an Australian robotic engineering team with 36 in-house professionals.

Paul successfully managed his business through the 2009 global financial crisis fall-out as clients re-negotiated and paused, delayed or even shelved major projects. He believes that survival has led to a much stronger company. The company has reached multi-million dollar turnover and returned or paid back all seed capital.

Paul was a finalist in Young Engineer of the Year in 2005, and was nominated in Face of Engineers Australia WA. In 2009 he was recognised with a special commendation for Young Engineer of the Year WA.

Paul is focused on participating in the industry and contributing to the community. He educates schools, universities and business groups about the engineering and technology industries, and has made small TV appearances.

Argon is highly technical in nature, involving cutting edge robotics, in hazardous and remote environments. Its complex control architectures and interfaces involve unique proprietary solutions. Having completed and commercialised substantial research and development on these major systems in 2010, Paul's focus over the next five years will be to capitalise on in-house developed technology and intellectual property.
