My name is Larry Doolan, I'm a native of the soil,
If you want a day's diversion, I'll drive you out in style,
My car is painted red and green, and on the door a star,
And the pride of Dublin city is my Irish jaunting car.

I didn't know that. The Confederates also took "Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye" and made "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" and the Union even wrote their own lyrics too. I guess you're right; governments make propaganda out of folk music.

@MegaAstrodude the british did the same, johnny i hardly knew ye being an irish anti war song, then being used by both sides of the civil war as johnny comes marching home, then being used by the british as tommy comes marching home, just shows how governments use pop culture to subvert folk music into propaganda

@TheJamesDun Ah, not as true as you would think. The english were quite prevalent in the south, along with the french and german. I would not say as a fact that they were "Mostly made up of Irishmen" though.
