Wow, thanks for posting. She must be a very shallow drafted and flat bottomed ship to get so close.
You would think that a large rock carrying barge would be more economical than trappsing back and forth with a small ship like that though:).

She was only carrying about 500 tonnes from a mother ship anchored about a mile off. This vessel brought the rock from (I think) Boulogne, and craned it over into the hoppers.

How the hell did he get that ship in such shallow water up the beach and with all that rock on board and not get grounded!!!
It must either have an extremely shallow draft or the sea bed goes rapidly deeper where he came in. I can't think of any other explaination for it!!!

I imagine Ville draws 6 or 8 foot at the stern, but much less at the bow.
The sea bottom hereabouts is relatively flat, shoaling gradually, but I guess there's just enough water to keep her afloat! It's worth noting that this operation only took place on a rising tide.
