I'm not a pro my self but if you really want to get the most out of the camera you need to get to the settings. It truly is worth it. Oh and sorry for rittling your comments with my "non" expertise xD. Me and my dad's business do weddings and stuff so I know what I'm talking about. I use CS4 though.

On the "XL" series there's just a switch but on the "XH" series it's in the menu. If you do a little searching you'll fund it.

The canon "HX" series is dubbed to be an "entry level" camera or for productions with tight budgets. Since the camera is HD it outputs HD 1440x1080i (HD 1.333 anamorphic) and displays on the screen and or computer as 1920x1080i. It's an extremely nice versatile and lightweight camera.

99% of time I shoot in auto because I'm on the go and not a pro videographer. The work I do I don't have time to set up for different modes. I messed around a little on this day just to test it out a little.

I use a Mac and edit with Final Cut Express.
